How does Jean choose which nation to fight for?
Two players give the same procedure; the designer's replies only partly address it.

For each nation, add the tile's printed value, the modifier at the top of the tile and the noble ranks (the banner level, not influence) that you and Jean have. She fights for the highest total. Ties go to the nation with the highest value printed on the tile, then to France, then Spain, then England. She does not get the VP printed beside the combat value.
