Colour-independent effects work on the 5th tower. The publisher confirmed this for Pico della Mirandola's discount and for Cesare Borgia's removal of the Military requirement for Territories. The Abbess is unsettled: the publisher's principle suggests her all-colours icon works, but one player cites an FAQ note on Scientific Research saying the 5th tower cannot be selected. The Gonzaga purchase explicitly excludes the 5th tower.
