In solo play, can cards that say 'a player' target me?
Yes — 'a player' includes you, so you can pick your own characters or deck. 'Another player' cannot target yourself, so those effects do nothing in true solo play, and Sentinel and Ranged are irrelevant because there is nobody else to help.
