Are the skill tiles on the boats placed face up or face down?
The designer confirmed this in several threads, which is why the rulebook diagram is overridden.

Face up. Skill tiles put on the boats at the start of spring, summer and autumn are visible, so players know what each boat offers. The diagram in the rulebook that shows them face down was an oversight.
