How does the bonus card that moves my Merchant 3 or 4 places work?
The card text replaces 1 or 2 places with 3 or 4 places in the movement phase.

It replaces the normal 1-or-2 movement for that turn, so playing a second copy does not add more distance, and you still must end on a different place. You still pick up or leave an Assistant at the end (and pay Merchants), and passed-over places are ignored. If the move takes you far from your Assistants you can still move the lone Merchant, but without an Assistant to drop or collect you get no action and no encounters.
