Can the Companion use the Fountain, and do my Assistants return to my Merchant?

Yes. The Companion can take the Fountain action, like a Family Member does, and all the Assistants you choose to bring back return to the Merchant stack, wherever the Merchant stands. He pays nobody at the Fountain. Using the Fountain action also lets you return him to your supply. The Kebab Shop's movement option does not return him; only the Fountain recall does.
