Can I choose an event option I can't pay for?
No. If a card offers a choice, you can't pick an option you can't pay in full, though an alternative payment allowed by other rules counts (for example Sacrificing at 3 dice becomes an Exhausted injury). If you are simply told to lose something you don't have and there is no choice, nothing happens.
