When can Geis be played against an Action card or in a clash?
The rulebook says Geis is played after the action is declared; later timing in a clash is community interpretation.

Geis may be played only after the current player has fully declared the action (targets, origin and so on) and before its effects start executing. Players generally hold that once a clash has started from the card it is too late. Whether it can answer a Warlord after the next maneuver was chosen is not settled; the safe reading is that the window closes when the next maneuver is picked.
