In Hive Colony, must the Tick move every turn, and what does it do to a touched piece?

You are not forced to move the Tick every turn, but when you do move it, it must go down if it is on top of the Hive and up onto the Hive if it is at ground level. It lets you use the movement or special ability of an adjacent piece, even an opponent's, as if it were yours.
