Can a Beetle or Grasshopper that is surrounded on all sides still move?

The rulebook exempts the Grasshopper and the Beetle's climbing from the sliding rule, and several players confirm the consequences.

Yes. A surrounded Beetle can climb up onto the Hive and a Grasshopper can jump, so being surrounded does not trap them. They are stopped only by the usual limits: moving would split the Hive, a Beetle sits on top of them, or (for a climbing Beetle) a gate of two stacks blocks the climb.
