How are Valour and Disdain calculated when some Pict attacks get through?

Each attack that gets through gives 1 Disdain, up to the Year's grey flag number. Valour is the grey flag number minus the Disdain, never below zero. Example: grey flag 3 with 1 attack through gives 1 Disdain and 2 Valour, and flag 3 with 4 attacks through gives 3 Disdain and no Valour. The flag caps the Year's total, not each Cohort.
