When does Wound deal damage, and can Shield stop it?
The rulebook text states this plainly.

Wound deals 1 damage at the start of each of the figure's turns, and it is not an attack, so Shield does not reduce it. A figure at 1 hit point with Wound dies at its next turn start. You can negate it by losing or discarding cards, but that does not remove the Wound.
