When does a Shield from a card I play become active?
Only once that card's action is performed on your turn, so monsters acting earlier in the round are not affected. A persistent shield left over from an earlier round is already active. A monster's rolled shield works the same way: it applies only after the monster takes its turn, while the shield printed on its card is always on.
