Why is there a coin cost between MacDonald and Cameron?

The publisher says the coin was probably left over from late balancing, but the balancing is correct as printed, so you pay it. Cameron can also be reached from the start field, so you pick the cheapest route. Some players call it a misprint and treat Cameron as free, but that contradicts the publisher.
