Where can a losing attacker retreat?

To one area that at least one attacker moved from, along a legal path, with all units going to the same area. If that origin became contested or hostile, they can't retreat there; with no other origin they are destroyed. If every attacker was placed by an effect other than an Advance order, they cannot retreat and are destroyed.
