Two one-hand items, or one two-hand item, can be in your hands; the backpack holds unlimited items, but a hand-icon item must be in your hands to be used (even defensive ones like the Crucifix). Rearrange freely when you gain an item; otherwise only in the Upkeep phase. An item with no hand icon works from the backpack even when both hands are full.
