Item traps never replace normal items (each deck still has four cards, and a trap is never the first face-up card). When you take an item and set off a trap you keep the item and the trap resolves. Zappo ignores traps: when he searches, the trap affects neither you nor him. After Zappo searches, only the decks he looked through are reshuffled.
