How do I attack enemy population after the battles?
Official answers from the publisher or designer address this directly, and it fits the rulebook.
After a hex's battles, each surviving ship may fire all its cannons once (not missiles) at the population, using normal to-hit rolls with no shields. Each point of damage kills one cube of your choice, so Plasma kills two and Antimatter four, and a single hit can be split across cubes. This also works in hexes with no battle, and is optional; destroyed cubes go to their owner's Graveyard.
