What does the presence on a location card do?
Several players agree; the common test card sets Traverse difficulty from presence.

It is the difficulty of a Traverse test on that location (the minimum effort needed to place progress on it). Locations never fatigue you, since nothing lies between you and the location. Extra effort above presence still goes on the location as progress.
