Must I gain a card with Remodel after trashing, and can I Remodel a Curse?
The rulebook's card description says this directly, and forum replies agree.

Yes. You do as much of the card as you can: trash a card from your hand and gain a Supply card costing up to 2 more, which can be a cheaper card or a copy of the trashed one. A Curse may be remodeled for a card costing 2 or less. You gain nothing only if no legal card remains.
