Season 2 and Season 4 only add episodes and Elder Ones, so they need a core box (Season 1 or Fear of the Unknown) for the tiles, tokens and rules. The Season 3 core box is standalone; you need Season 1 only if you want its investigators or Unknown Monster cards.
