If slaughtering an animal cuts my link to a Port tile, can I still use its one-fewer-Meat bonus?
The designer answered this directly in 2017, and the rulebook text agrees.

Yes, if you use the port before you fulfil the contract. Claim the bonus first (you are in reach at that moment), then fulfil with one fewer animal; losing the connection afterwards does not matter because the port is already used. The designer first answered the opposite way (deliver goods and meat, then bonus, so the link is lost) and then called the before-the-action reading 100% correct; the later ruling stands.
