What is the difference between trashing and discarding a card?
The rulebook's Trash entry describes trash as removal to the box.

A discarded card goes to your discard pile. A trashed card leaves your deck entirely and goes back to the box, at the end of the turn if it was in your play area. This works for Reserve cards too.
