Can I build a residence with the Lawyer and upgrade it with the Architect in the same turn?

Yes, as long as the Lawyer comes before the Architect on the road. If the building you convert had no worker on it, the residence appears at once and the Architect can build over it. If a worker delayed the swap, the residence may not be ready in time.
