Can you take cards back out of your bid when raising it?
The designer confirmed this directly, consistent with the rulebook's wording on adding cards to a bid.

No. To raise a bid you can only add more cards from your hand to the cards already in front of you. Cards already played to the bid stay there until you are outbid and pass (then the whole bid returns to your hand).
