What does the standard action in parentheses on a Guild card mean, and does it replace or add to the basic action?
The rulebook states this directly.

A card action such as Assassinate (Battle) is a New Action that counts as that standard action. When you'd take Battle, you may use it instead, never in addition. Pips can be split between the new and standard version freely.
