How do I set up a 5-player game?

Use the Escalation components. The base game always uses six Alliance Bases; start with twice the player count in planets (10 for five players); and shuffle all the extra modules into the decks, since all modules work at any player count. The Vortex and Quasar tiles are optional and need no special rules.
