Why are there only eight alchemicals?
The rulebook's alchemical chart lists exactly these eight.

Each alchemical is one combination of plus/minus on the three colors, which gives eight. The potion-mixing rules only work if each pair of ingredients yields exactly one potion, so no other alchemicals exist.
