Can I refuse the Altar of Gold's effect by paying nothing, or buy it with exactly enough gold?
You cannot pay 0 once the effect resolves (1 to 8 gold). Buying it with exactly enough gold probably works but the payment fizzles; one reply says it is unbuyable that way. No official ruling.
