Must a cube stop at the first city of its colour on its route?
The rulebook says a cube must stop as soon as it enters a matching city.

Yes. It must stop as soon as it enters a city of its colour, so a route may not pass through a same-coloured city. A longer route is fine if it avoids matching cities and doesn't revisit cities.
