Can I redirect or replace my own or unowned track however I like?
The designer stated that only other players' track must be preserved.

Yes. Only other players' existing track must be preserved; your own or unowned track may be redirected or replaced, including both ends of a complex tile in one build. You cannot touch another player's track or redirect their unfinished section.
