How does a push such as Rock Toss move the target, and can it go diagonally?

A push moves the target one square farther from the source, never closer or the same distance. Forced movement is orthogonal by default, but Rock Toss may go diagonally as long as the target ends farther away. If the push is part of a Basic Attack, ignoring the attack also ignores the push.
