Can I use Prepare to swap a prepared class feature for one in my hand?
The designer answered this in 2021 and the rulebook says Prepare needs an empty slot.

No. Prepare works only when the class feature slot is empty. You can still play a class feature from your hand as an action. The Bard is an exception, with abilities that interact with class features.
